Wolverines jump into first in West with win over Blizzard

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are now sitting first place in the West Division after beating the OCN Blizzard by a score of 4-1.

In a penalty-filled game, the Wolverines were 3 for 10 on the man advantage and killed off six of seven penalties of their own to win the special teams battle.

In the first period, after plenty of penalties both ways, the Wolverines got the first goal when Leyton Smith beat Nick Pineo.

The Blizzard tied it back up at 16:45 when Dain Sardelli got a powerplay goal of his own.

In the second period, the Wolverines got the scoring started quick when Boone Mathison tipped it in to put the team out in front.

Joey Moffatt put the team up by two five minutes later with another tip in.

Kolton Shindle had the last goal of the period with another lucky bounce.

The only goal in the third was Max Mazur’s empty net goal to ice the game.

With the win and a Dauphin loss to Virden by a score of 4-2, the Wolverines have moved into first place in the West Division.

The Wolverines head back to home ice on Tuesday when they take on the Neepawa Titans at 7:30pm.
