RECAP: Flyers beat Wolverines in high scoring game

The Winkler Flyers beat the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in a high-scoring, penalty-filled game to end the Wolverines home stand.

The Wolverines scored first, but gave up three unanswered before the end of the starting frame to find themselves in a hole early, one they were never able to recover from.

Griffin Ayotte scored 4:46 into the game on a breakaway in which he he beat Liam Ernst fivehole.

But the Flyers tied it up 17 seconds later, when Liam Carlone responded with a rebound goal.

Winkler scored three minutes later when Jayce Legaarden got his 19th of the season to make it 2-1. Andrew Morton scored minutes later on the powerplay to make it 3-1.

The score was the same for the rest of the period and most of the second until a shorthanded goal by Brody Beauchemin with 26 seconds left in the period made it 4-1.

In the third, the two teams exchanged goals, going back and forth through the rest of the game. Beauchemin had two more goals including another shorthanded one, and Dustin Bell scored his first ever MJHL goal.

The Wolverines answered with Ayotte’s second goal and Jack Clarke scoring twice.

The Wolverines were 3/8 on the powerplay, but gave up two shorthanded goals. The Flyers were 1/5 on the powerplay.

Liam Ernst stopped 19 shots in the win, while Wareham had 24 saves in the loss.
