Wolverines win third straight

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines played some good shutdown defence on their way to a third straight win.

The Wolverines were able to shut down the Portage Terriers with a low-scoring 2-1 win.

It is the team’s second straight win over a team that is higher than them in the standings, after not being able to beat one of those team all season long before Saturday.

The Wolverines were also able to come from behind for the win, although it was a smaller deficit than the two-goal deficit back on Saturday against Niverville.

The Terriers scored first in the opening frame when Nolan Nenow was able to sneak it by Kaiden Kirkwood with a shot from the outside.

The Wolverines were able to answer back in the second period when Ben Roulette scored on the powerplay, getting his 18th of the season.

In the third period, the Wolverines got the game winning goal when Sam McPeak was able to put it over Terriers goaltender Gavin Renwick.

The Wolverines were able to go 1/5 in the game on the powerplay, while shutting down the Terriers powerplay all four times.

Wolverines goaltender Kaiden Kirkwood stopped 27 of 28 shots in the game, while Renwick stopped 28 of 30.

Waywayseecappo will try to go for four in a row on Friday night when they take on the Dauphin Kings in Dauphin.
