Wolverines win fourth straight with shootout win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines extended their season-high win streak with a 3-2 shootout win over their West Division rivals, the Dauphin Kings.

Sean Williams scored the shootout winning goal and Jase Wareham stopped all three shots he saw in the skills competition to give the Wolverines their fourth straight win.

The game ended up being a goaltender duel, with Wareham and Sheffield stopping a combined 54 of 58 shots they faced.

The Wolverines started the scoring early in the game when Sam McPeak scored 2:10 into the game.

The Kings tied it up later on when Gabriel Bugeaud scored at the 13:31 mark of the first.

In the second period, it was Ben Roulette with a nice move to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead into the third period.

But a bad turnover by the Wolverines gave Cayden Glover a chance to score, and he got it to go by squeaking it by Wareham.

The game went to overtime, but nothing could be done by either team.

In the shootout, only Williams was able to score as both teams went through a combined five shooters, and Wareham’s stop on Ashton Paul was the nail on the coffin, as the Wolverines got their fourth straight win.

With the win, the Wolverines moved to one point back of Neepawa for the final playoff spot in the West Division, just before the Titans play on Saturday night against the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Wolverines next game is on Tuesday night against the same Dauphin Kings team, just on home ice this time at the Waywayseecappo Arena.
