Wolverines Spoil Blizzard Home Opener In Fourth Straight Win

Thomson Phinney stopped 27 of 28 shots while Logan Wotton scored his first MJHL goal to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead with his early third-period game-winner.

Jaymes Knee scored his third goal of the season to give the Wolverines the 3-1 win while picking up his league-leading, sixth point of the season.

It took a while for the Wolverines to find their legs, but when they did, the team showcased their speed and took over the game.

A back and forth first period saw the OCN Blizzard come away with a 1-0 lead after Boston Bird beat Thomson Phinney with six minutes left in the frame.

Just before the midway mark of the second period, Matt Kasowski’s second of the season beat Cloutier from the point to tie the game up at 1-1. Both Ethan McColm and Matt Swanson picked up their first MJHL assist on the scoring play.

The two clubs would head into the third period battling to get in front. This time, it was Logan Wotton at the side of the net that would give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead with his first MJHL goal early in the third.

After an early Wolverines penalty kill, the team took over and shut down the Blizzard. With just over one minute remaining, Jaymes Knee sealed the deal for the Wolverines with an empty netter to give the team their fourth straight victory with the 3-1 win.

Late in the frame, Ryley Cardinal would drop the mitts with Sam Willits as tempers would flare up.

Thomson Phinney was rock solid when called upon on Thursday night, shutting down 27 of 28 shots to pick up his fourth win of the season.

Next up for the Wolverines is a date with the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night in Swan River. You can watch tomorrows action live on hockeytv.com or follow us on Twitter @mjhlWolverines for live game updates.
