Wolverines roll over Titans in preseason action

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines got the weekend sweep over the Neepawa Titans with a 6-3 win in Neepawa in preseason action.

The Wolverines scored five goals in the first two periods, and then hung on in the last 20 minutes to secure their second preseason win of the campaign.

Luke McCarthy, who joined the Wolverines earlier this week, was the focal point of the team’s offence with two goals and one assist in the game. Jesiah Bennett also helped out, with a goal and two assists.

The Wolverines got out two quick two goal lead in the first, with McCarthy and Bennett scoring within a minute of each other.

The Titans cut the deficit in half, as Kyle Weisgarber scored at the 11:03 mark in the first.

But Ryan Jossy put the Wolverines up by two once again after a great individual effort by McCarthy, which led to the pass to Jossy for the back door goal.

In the second, highlight reel goals helped the Wolverines get a 5-1 lead at the end of the period.

Sean Williams found the corner, and McCarthy was able to get around the defence to give the Wolverines the bigger lead.

In the third, Brendan Quinn-Lagria scored his first as a Wolverines, just arriving to the team the day before.

Titans cut the lead down to three goals after goals from Jack Arnold and Mason Hartley.

Marek Andres stopped 22 shots in the win, while Drew Blake only stopped 20 in the loss.

The Wolverines will next head to Ochapowace Nation on Friday night, to take on the Yorkton Terriers in the finale of the preseason schedule.
