Wolverines lose another one-goal game

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines finished their three game stretch against the MJHL’s best with another one-goal loss, losing to the Virden Oil Capitals 3-2.

The Wolverines fought back, but couldn’t get the equalizer in the final minutes.

The only goal scored in the first period was Nolan Chastko who buried one past Kaiden Kirkwood on a 2-on-1 to make it 1-0 just 4:41 into the contest.

In the second period, the Wolverines tied it up when Garett Zasitko scored on a tip-in from a shot off of Thomas Kaufield’s shot.

But it wasn’t long until Brett Sabel scored to make it a 2-1 lead for the Oil Capitals once again.

In the third, it took until the last five minutes for any excitement, as the Oil Capitals scored to make it a 3-1 game with a nice wrist shot from Josh Lehto.

But just seconds after that, Jack Clarke got his 20th of the season to make it a one goal game.

But that’s how close the Wolverines would get, as they lose another one-goal game against a top MJHL team over the course of the week.

The Wolverines powerplay drought continued as they were 0/3 in the contest. Their penalty kill was perfect stopping all three Oil Capitals powerplays.

The Wolverines will host the Swan Valley Stampeders on Thursday night in their next contest.
