Wolverines fall out of playoff spot after loss to Blizzard

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are on the outside looking into a playoff spot after losing to the OCN Blizzard 6-4 on Saturday night.

The Blizzard rode a big second period to win their sixth straight game, and clinch a playoff spot in the process.

Meanwhile, the Wolverines loss, combined with a Neepawa Titans win, moved the team one point back of playoff spot before the two teams play each other on Tuesday night in Neepawa.

The Wolverines trailed from the get go, as the Blizzard scored two goals within four minutes of each other halfway through the first. Sebastian Hamming scored the first goal, while Griffin Ayotte made it 2-0.

The Wolverines got one back before the end of the period when Aiden Moser got his 10th of the season.

The Blizzard jumped out to a three goal lead within the first four minutes of the second period, when Ayotte scored his second of the game and Riley See scored on the powerplay to make it 4-1.

Later on, See scored his second of the game to make it 5-1.

In the third period, the Wolverines made the game a bit closer when Ben Roulette scored his 20th to make it 5-2.

Brenden holba later scored to make it a two goal game, but the Blizzard added another by Ethan Bibeau to make it a three goal game again.

The Wolverines added another when Garett Zasitko scored on the powerplay, but that’s as close as the Wolverines would get, losing 6-4.

Loic Morin got the win for the Blizzard, while Kaiden Kirkwood got the loss.

Both teams managed to score a poweprlay goal in the game.

The Wolverines will head to Neepawa on Tuesday to take on the Titans.
