Wolverines extend win streak to three

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines extended their point streak and win streak after a 2-1 win over the Winkler Flyers.

The Birthday Boy, Leyton Smith, celebrating his 20th birthday on the day, ended up with the game winner in the second period of the game.

In the first period, after a back and forth battle for the first half of the period, a nice passing play from Colby Wotton to Cole Carlson to Caden Carlson gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

In the second period, the Flyers thought they tied up the game, but it was ruled goaltender interference after a hit on Tresor Wotton from Kyle Crewe.

Seconds later, Leyton Smith capitalized on the man advantage and made it 2-0 Wolverines.

It wasn’t until the last 30 seconds of the second period when Winkler finally found the back of the net, when Jayce Legaarden got a turnover and was able to put it in to make it a one goal game.

It was a hard fought third period, but no one could get a goal, and the Flyers peppered the Wolverines with 13 shots in the final frame.

At the end of the game, Winkler won the shot battle, 35-31, but Tresor Wotton made 33 saves in the win.

The Wolverines move to 9 points on the year,  picking up at least one point in each game this season.

Their next game will be on Friday in Waywayseecappo when they take on the OCN Blizzard at 7:30pm.
