Wolverines announce 2022-23 Captains

As the Waywayseecappo Wolverines took on the Winkler Flyers last weekend, fans might have noticed a few changes on some players uniforms.

Five players on the team have been given letters and named a team captain.

The coaching staff has named Andrew Boucher as Captain for the upcoming season. Lucas Eagle and Carson Baptiste were named as Assistant Captains, along with Leyton Smith and Colby Wotton, who will alternate the A designation on home and away games. Smith will be an assistant on the road, while Wotton will be one for home games.

Head Coach Taylor Harnett says great leadership is the foundation of any winning team.

“These five men have been a part of our organization for the past few seasons. They have learned from past leaders and are excited for the opportunity to lead this year.”

Andrew Boucher is playing in his third season as a Wolverine and is from Morden, Manitoba. He had 46 points in 51 games last season, and is already a near the top for scoring for the team this year. He was also a Wolverines draft pick, picked in the fourth round in 2017.

“I’m super honoured,” said Boucher. “We have a great group of guys here, and I’m honoured to be the leader of this group.”

Lucas Eagle, the Edmonton, Alberta product, is playing in his second season with the Wolverines after being acquired from the Estevan Bruins.

Carson Baptiste, from Maskwacis, Alberta, is playing in his third season with the Wovlerines. He tallied 34 points last season and is a top scorer for the team this year.

Leyton Smith, from Edson, Alberta, is also playing in his third and final season as a Wolverine.

And Colby Wotton, from Foxwarren, Manitoba, is an original Wolverines Draft Pick, getting picked in 2018 in the first round. He is playing in his second season with the team and is the only 19-year-old that will be wearing a letter for the 2022-23 season.
