#TheNextWAYve | Merik Boles

After the Wolverines watched the second round of the 2020 MJHL Draft from the sidelines; The hockey club was back on the clock with the twenty-sixth overall selection. It was with this pick that the Wolverines selected, Merik Boles.

Boles was excited to learn the Wolverines secured his MJHL playing rights. “When I saw my name pop up on the draft screen, I was super excited. Waywayseecappo is a great organization, and I can’t wait to meet everyone in person.”

Boles, a product of Lorette Manitoba, spent the 2019-2020 season with the Eastman AAA Bantam Selects. In 36 games this season, he was just shy of a point per game (19 goals, 16 assists). However, his offensive instinct is not the only aspect that makes Merik an appealing prospect; The Wolverines brass feels he brings a high IQ and a strong defensive game to the table.

Although Boles grew up on the opposite side of Manitoba, he has family connections in and around the Shoal Lake and Foxwarren area. The Wolverines also found out after the draft that Boles is a distant cousin of Kurt Rookes, whom the Wolverines selected with their previous pick.

As for right now, Boles, who models his complete, two-hundred-foot game after Boston Bruins star Patrice Bergeron, has high hopes for next season. “I’m going to try and get stronger this summer, and I hope to be playing for the U18 AAA Eastman team.”

The Wolverines would like to welcome Merik and his family to our organization.
