Stampeders beat Wolverines in preseason opener

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped their preseason opener against the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-0 in Swan River.

In what was a rookie game, with both teams starting predominantly rookie players will no Junior A experience, the Stampeders came out with a big lead in the first period and held on for a victory.

The Stampeders got the scoring started just a little over halfway through the first period when Riley Fequet scored on a powerplay, just tapping it by Leyton Medwick.

The Stamps added a second goal of the period just a few minutes later when Ashton Cure scored.

Swan Valley made it 3-0 before the end of the period when Callum Halls scored with 1:41 left.

There was no scoring in the second period.

In the third period, Colin Kwak shot a puck from just outside the blue line, where it went five hole on Gavin Pomeroy to give the Stampeders a 4-0 lead.

The Stamps led the game in shots by a 24-20 advantage.

The two teams will play again tomorrow evening, this time in Russell to finish off a back to back to start the preseason schedule.
