The Waywayseecappo Wolverines kept pace with the Virden Oil Capitals in the standings after a 5-1 win over the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday night.
After giving up the first goal of the game, the Wolverines scored five unanswered to win comfortably in Selkirk.
In the first period, the only goal scorer was Rohan Guevarra for the Steelers as they went up 1-0.
In the second period, the Wolverines got out in front with back to back goals in the first 27 seconds, as Griffin Ayotte had an easy tap in after a flurry in front of the net to tie it up. Then Owen Pringle got his first of the year, nine seconds later, from a shot from the point to make it 2-1.
Ayotte scored his second of the game at the 12:37 mark to make it 3-1, after banking it off a defender from behind the goal line.
In the third period, Selkirk came close a few times, but was unable to beat Mariko Bercier.
The Wolverines then put it away when Cole Hunter scored an empty netter with 3:20 left in the game.
Deegan Wapass later added a powerplay goal to make it 5-1.
Bercier stopped 36 shots in the win, while Ethan Sawyer stopped 43 in the loss.
The Wolverines are now tied with the Oil Capitals for fourth in the West, but have played one more game.
