Late goal by Baptiste sinks Blues

A late goal by Carson Baptiste gave the Waywayseecappo Wolverines a full two points and the win over the Winnipeg Blues.

The Wolverines defeated the Blues 2-1, even after a strong performance by Dawson Green for the Blues.

After a scoreless first period, the Wolverines finally started the scoring in the second off a powerplay goal when Kolton Shindle took a feed from Boston Bird behind his net, and beat Dawson Green.

The Wolverines held the lead until a late goal Josiah Vanderhooft tipped it by Tereposky from a pass by Eric Fawkes with 29 seconds left to go in the period.

In the third, after outshooting the Blues 16-2, the Wolverines were finally able to get a second goal past Green when Baptiste tipped it by from a shot by Andrew Boucher.  The goal was scored with 20 seconds left in the game.

The Blues couldn’t even get close to getting a final shot on net as the Wolverines won the draw and played keep away to get the W.

The loss gives the Blues their fifth straight loss and keeps them 1-7 after beating the Wolverines in late November.

Liam Tereposky stopped 17 of 18 shots for the win, while Green stopped 39 shots in the loss.

The two teams will return to the RINK in Winnipeg on Saturday at 7:30pm to complete both team’s 2021 schedule.
