To finish off the year 2021, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines will take on the Winnipeg Blues in back to back games on Thursday and Saturday.
The two teams sit in the top four in the MJHL, both sitting in 2nd place in their respective divisions.
They have played once before, with Winnipeg beating the Wolverines during the MJHL Showcase in Portage 3-2.
It will be a battle of two of the most explosive offences in the league, but in two different ways.
Waywayseecappo leads the league in scoring with 125 goals scored, but their highest scoring player is a defencemen. The team can get goals from all four different lines and is always a threat to score.
Winnipeg meanwhile has the league’s top three scorers with Eric Fawkes, Josiah Vanderhooft and Brayden Foreman all within two points of each other. There is quite a drop off after those three, with the team’s fourth highest scorer at 20 points.
The Blues have one of the best goalies in the league with Dawson Green sitting third in the league with a 2.32 GAA, and .927 Save percentage. The team’s ability to limit goals has been one of their biggest strengths.
Since the showcase meeting, both teams have had difficulties with wins, with the Wolverines only going 4-3-0 since their loss to Winnipeg. Meanwhile the Blues have fallen off, only getting one win since their win over Wayway. Losing three times to Dauphin, twice to Neepawa and once to OCN.
The first game of the back to back is at Waywayseecappo at 7:30pm on Thursday, and the two teams will head back to Winnipeg for a game at the RINK Training Centre at 7:30pm on Saturday.
