Wolverines This Week: Facing West Division Rivals

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines certainly got two moral victories this past week after facing the two top teams in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The Wolverines lost 3-2 in overtime to the Steinbach Pistons and 4-3 to the Winkler Flyers, getting one point over the five days, but putting up a challenge to the top teams in the league.

The Wolverines schedule doesn’t get much easier though, as they have the same top teams to play, along with a team further down the standings for the next week.

Waywayseecappo @ Virden – January 23rd 7:30PM

The Wolverines head to Virden for the final time this season, as the take on the West Division leaders. The Wolverines have been able to beat the Oil Capitals this season, but haven’t since the fourth game of the season.

The two teams have traditionally played very close games against each other, with a streak of almost two years where each game was a one goal game. That streak was snapped in the last game though when Virden won 5-1.

Swan Valley @ Waywayseecappo – January 25th 7:30PM

The Wolverines will host the Swan Valley Stampeders for the first time since October.

The Stampeders have taken a step back from last season, as they sit last in the West Division and sold at the trade deadline. But they have put up some respectable results since the trade deadline, and can still put up a challenge to the MJHL’s best.

Waywayseecappo @ Winkler – January 28th 3:00PM

The Wolverines will head to Winkler for a Sunday matinee for the second time this season, and final meeting with the Flyers.

The last time they played in Winkler, it was not pretty. But the team has improved with 5-2 and 4-3 losses since then, including back on Sunday losing at home.

The Flyers will play the Wolverines after games against Portage and Steinbach earlier in the week.
