Wolverines sweep weekend series with Steelers

The Wolverines rode a hot start to the game to get a 6-3 win over the Selkirk Steelers to sweep the weekend series.

Carson Baptiste got two more goals and an assist, along with Nolan Grier and Aiden Moser getting a goal and an assist each to help the Wolverines to victory.

Three goals were scored in the last six minutes of the period, starting off with the hot Carson Baptiste, with his 19th of the season, from Andrew Boucher and Lucas Eagle.

The goal extended Baptiste’s goal streak to six games, and Lucas Eagle’s point streak to five games.

Just over a minute later, Nolan Grier finished off a good passing play with a cross ice pass from Aiden Moser, to get his 10th of the season to make it 2-0.

In the last minute of the period, Owen Wheatley made it 3-0 when he got the puck in the slot and beat the Steelers goaltender.

In the second period, the Wolverines extended their lead when Aiden Moser got his first as a Wolverine on a powerplay goal.

The Steelers got back in the game with two quick goals back to back halfway through the second period. Mathieu Catellier and Nolan Anderson scored 19 seconds apart to make it a two goal game heading into the third period.

In the third, it took more than halfway through the period for another goal to be scored, when Leyton Smith wired it past Joshua Kirton to make it 5-2.

The Steelers got one back when Lucas Brennan scored his 22nd of the season to make it a two goal game once again.

But Carson Baptiste put the game on ice, when he got a lucky bounce after going end to end to make it 6-3.

The Wolverines were 2/4 on the powerplay in the game, while the Steelers had another difficult night on the powerplay, only going 1/7.

The Wolverines outshot the Steelers 35-24 in the game.
