Wolverines post second straight shutout

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines and Kaiden Kirkwood got their second straight shutout with a 8-0 win over the Winnipeg Freeze on Tuesday night.

Kirkwood ended up stopping 20 shots in the game, but made some incredible saves to keep his shutout streak intact. He hasn’t let in a goal since 6:24 mark of the third period against the OCN Blizzard on January 4th, making it 133:36 minutes straight of goalless play.

The Wolverines only scored one goal in the first period, when Neo Kiemeney scored 6:44 into the game on a 5-on-3 powerplay.

But the Wolverines exploded in the second period, with goals by Sean Williams, Jack Clarke, Aiden Moser, Sam McPeak and Ben Roulette.

Williams and Clarke both scored their 19th of the seasons in the middle frame. The 19th goals both moved them to a tie for first for the MJHL goal scoring lead.

McPeak and Roulette’s goals were scored in the last 32 seconds of the game.

In the third, the Wolverines got goals from Sean Williams and Neo Kiemeney, both getting their second of the game. For Williams, it moved to him sole possession of first place for the MJHL goal scoring lead.

For the Freeze, Nicholas Rempel stopped 30 shots in the loss.

The Wolverines also moved within two points of the Neepawa Titans for the final playoff spot in the West Division, after the Titans lost 3-0 in Dauphin.

The Wolverines will now have a week off before they play the Steinbach Pistons in La Broquerie on January
