Wolverines playoff hopes take big hit with loss to Nighthawks

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines could not follow up a win as they lost 6-1 to the Niverville Nighthawks.

The Nighthawks controlled the game throughout giving the Wolverines their worst loss on home ice this season.

Michael Tanchak scored two goals and Raiden Legall stopped 31 shots in the win.

The Nighthawks scored the only goal of the first period when Michael Tanchak scored on a 2-on-1 with Alex Walicki nearly 13 minutes into the frame.

The Nighthawks kept with the offensive pressure in the second period when Carter Spirig was able to beat Kaiden Kirkwood glove side right off the draw.

Ty Kennett later added another for Niverville to make it 3-0.

The Wolverines did end up scoring at the end of the period when Brenden Holba scored a fantastic spin around goal off a nice feed from Thomas Kaufield to make it 3-1 at the end of the period.

But in the third, the game got away from the Wolverines quickly as Bryce Warkentine and Brett Tataryn scored just a minute apart to make it 5-1.

Tanchak scored his second of the game on the powerplay to make it 6-1.

The Wolverines were 0/3 on the powerplay in the game while the Nighthawks scored on their only attempt.

The Wolverines still find themselves three points back of Neepawa for the final playoff spot.

Their next game will be on Friday in La Broquerie as they take on the Steinbach Pistons.
