Wolverines lose close one

On the second half of a back-to-back, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines came up short losing to the Dauphin Kings 5-3.

Naaman Hofer scored the game winner in the third period and the Kings were 2/3 on the powerplay to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Cole Sheffield came up big in the third period, and was able to stop 19 of 22 shots in the game for the win. Marek Andres was also very good stopping 28 of 32 shots.

The game got started in a big way as Jesiah Bennett was tripped on a brekaway and the Wolverines were given a penalty shot. Sean Williams was asked to take it and delivered to make it 1-0.

Dauphin tied it up quickly though when Alex Senf picked up a rebound and made it 1-1.

Later on though, Neo Kiemeney made it 2-1 with a nice wrist shot.

In the second period, it was all Dauphin with the Kings outshooting the Wolverines 13-2.

Waywayseecappo wasn’t able to muster upĀ  a shot until the final minutes of the period.

In the meantime, Dauphin got goals from Blake Boudreau, on the powerplay and Joshua Schmidt about halfway through to make it 3-2 Kings.

In the third, Sean Williams tied the game off with a goal from the draw just 23 seconds into it.

But after a penalty to Ben Roulette, the Kings had a powerplay opportunity, and pounced on it with Naaman Hofer scoring from the point to make it 4-3.

Blake Boudreau added an empty net later, and the Kings walked off with a 5-3 win.

The Wolverines next game will be at the MJHL Showcase, with a game against Portage on Tuesday in Winnipeg.
