Wolverines Host Kings In Search Of Third Straight Win

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines (2-0-0-0) are back on home ice Tuesday night for their first meeting of the season against the Dauphin Kings (1-1-0-0).

For the Wolverines, they are fresh off of back-to-back wins over the Neepawa Natives to start the year. Over those two games, the Wolverines outscored the Natives, 8-1 and outshot them, 69-31.

Leading the way for the Wolverines on offense has been 19-year-old, Jaymes Knee. Through two games, the second year Wolverine has two goals and two assists

Although he didn’t see too much rubber through two games, Wolverines Goaltender, Thomson Phinney was named MJHL Goaltender of the Week for doing his part in securing back-to-back wins with one shutout, a 0.50 Goals Against Average and .968 Save Percentage.

A look at the Kings

The Dauphin Kings arrive in Waywayseecappo 1-1-0-0 after splitting their opening weekend series against the Swan Valley Stampeders. In their first meeting, the Kings and Stamps’ were locked at 2-2 in the second period before Swan Valley took over and skated to a 6-3 win.

In their return to home ice, Dauphin stormed out and scored six goals of their own to take down the Stampeders, 6-4.

Kings second year Forward, Nakadon Greyeyes leads the club in scoring with three goals and an assist through two games.

Stats and Stuff

Both the Wolverines and Kings powerplays have been operating over 30% after two games, while the Wolverines penalty kill was perfect against Neepawa, going 7 for 7.

The Kings gave up three powerplay goals to Swan Valley on seven penalty kills.

All six games against the Kings were a battle last season. Hard-hitting combat with emotions running high should set up for another intriguing match up between these two clubs from the parkland area.
