Wolverines fall apart in third in loss to Virden

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines gave up four goals in the third period to lose 5-1 to the Virden Oil Capitals and drop their third straight game.

Virden scored four goals in less than 10 minutes in the third to  take a 1-1 tie and turn it into a 5-1 win.

It was the Oil Capitals fifth straight win.

Virden scored first when Bryce Bryant was able to tip a shot by Caleb Allen for the icebreaker.

It wasn’t until the second period when the Wolverines tied it when a bouncing puck went off of Jesiah Bennett to make it 1-1.

After leaving the second period all tied, the Oil Capitals struck quick to make it 2-1, when Naton Miller was able to put in a bouncing puck to give the Oil Capitals the lead.

Minutes later, Josh Lehto gave the Oil Capitals a bigger lead and then it continued with Ethan Guthrie, and Nolan Chastko finishing off the scoring spree in the third period.

The Oil Capitals were able to put in four goals on 15 shots in the third period.

The rest of the period featured shenanigans on both sides, with a total of 55 penalty minutes given out in the game.

Eric Reid for Virden stopped 21 shots for the win, while Allen stopped 24 in the loss.

The Wolverines will next play the OCN Blizzard at home on Saturday night.
