Wolverines drop first Showcase game

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped their first game at the MJHL Showcase, losing 6-3 to the Portage Terriers on Tuesday night at the Seven Oaks Arena.

Portage got out to a 2-0 lead, and then the two teams exchanged goals the rest of the way.

The only goal scored in the first period, was by Parker Korman, scored halfway through the period.

Korman scored another goal to start off the second period to make it 2-0 for Portage.

The Wolverines got back in it though thanks to an individual effort by Aiden Moser on the powerplay to get within one goal.

But the Terriers got back in front by two goals with one by Cam Billinger to make it 3-1.

In the third period, the two teams went back and forth, starting with Nick Guberman scoring his third goal of the season.

Thomas Kaufield scored to make it a two goal game on the powerplay, but Matthew Biros for the Terriers got one right back again.

The two teams exchanged goals at the end of the game as Ryan Jossy scored for the Wolverines and Daniel Siso got one for the Terriers on an empty net.

The Wolverines were 3/6 on the powerplay, and killed of 5 of the 6 penalty kills in the game.

Marek Andres stopped 29 shots in the loss.

The Wolverines next play the Selkirk Steelers at 4pm for the second day of the Showcase on October 25th.
