Wolverines drop close one in Selkirk

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped their third game in a row after losing in Selkirk 3-2.

The Steelers got the game winning goal in the early part of the third period, and the Wolverines couldn’t answer the rest of the way.

Jack Hodgins stopped 38 shots in the win, improving his season record. Caleb Allen stopped 29 in the loss.

In the first period, there was no scoring for either side. The Wolverines outshot the Steelers 12-8.

Selkirk scored the first goal of the game when Colton Crysler beat Allen with a shot to the outside.

Waywayseecappo tied it up though when Jack Clarke got a clean shot off from the slot.

Nick Giasson scored on the powerplay to give the Steelers another lead, getting his sixth of the year.

The Wolverines tied it up again when Jesiah Bennett shot it up high to make it 2-2.

But in the third, Dawson Dear scored on the powerplay to give the Steelers the win.

In the game, the Steelers were 2/3 on the man advantage, while the Wolverines were shut out on their three tries.

The Wolverines next game will be on Sunday when they take on the Winnipeg Freeze at home.
