Wolverines Defeat Steelers 6-1 at Home Opener to Pick Up Second Straight Victory

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines picked up where they left off on Friday night and picked up their second straight win of the 2018-19 MJHL season by beating the Selkirk Steelers 6-1 in the clubs 20th-anniversary home opener.

Drew Anderson gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead when he opened the scoring at the 16:21 mark of the first period, with Riley Vautour adding the lone assist.

Midway through the second period, Anderson potted his second of the game to put the Woverines up 2-0, this time on the powerplay. Dylan Soosay and Brady Pupp notched the helpers. Brandon Lawson added to the Wolverines lead to make it 3-0 when he picked up his first goal of the season. Both Caleb Paisley and Morgan Poirier chipped in on the scoring play.

The Wolverines got off to a quick start in the third period when Dylan Soosay picked up his first MJHL goal on the powerplay to put the Wolverines up 4-0. Nick Doyle and Drew Anderson both added assists, with Anderson notching his third point of the game. Midway through the frame , Preston Seymour scored for the second straight game to increase the Wolverines lead to 5-0. Once again it was Riley Vautour and Drew Anderson with the assists.

Selkirk would score under one minute later to cut into the Wolverines and make it 5-1. With under four minutes remaining in the game, Greg Lee got the Wolverines ahead by five once again when he found the back of the net. Nick Doyle added his second assist of the game, while Drew Anderson capped off a career night with his third assist of the period to go along with a pair of goals in the first two periods.

When it was all said and done, the Wolverines skated away from their home opener against the Selkirk Steelers with a 6-1 victory for their second stright.

Isaac LaBelle was stellar once again for the Wolverines, picking up his second win on the season, stopping 32 of 33 shots.

The Wolverines are in action this coming Thursday when they host the Neepawa Natives at 7:30 inside the Waywayseecappo Arena Complex.
