The Waywayseecappo Wolverines escaped with a full two points on Wednesday afternoon at the MJHL Showcase, beating the Selkirk Steelers by a score of 4-3.

Garett Zasitko scored the game winner with 33 seconds left in regulation, just a minute after the Steelers tied the game.

The two teams exchanged goals throughout the night, starting with a Jack Clarke goal 27 seconds into the game from Luke McCarthy and Aiden Moser on an odd-man rush.

The Steelers tied the game on their second powerplay of the game, when Mathieu Moreira one-timed a pass from Joel Purdom at 7:28 of the first.

Moreira scored his second goal of the game 16:30 into the second period to tie the game up at two heading into the third period.

Like in the first period, Jack Clarke scored early in the third period on a breakaway to  make it 3-2.

But before overtime could become a thing, a nice passing play from Neo Kiemeny to Aidan Herring which eventually found the puck on Garett Zasitko’s stick to put into a wide open net with 33 seconds left in the game.

After that, the Wolverines were able to hold on for the 4-3 win.

Marek Andres looked like he was back in early season form, stopping 26 shots in the win, while Jack Hodgins stopped 22 shots in the loss.
