Luck runs out for Wolverines against Stampeders

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped a 6-3 decision to the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night.

Although the Wolverines outshot the Stampeders 42-28, Stamps goaltender Liam Vanderkooi and a couple of posts kept the Wolverines off the scoreboard through the contest.

The Wolverines scored first 4 minutes into the game when Luke McCarthy was able to fire one past Vanderkooi.

The Stamps tied it up right after with Josh Danis crashing the net and getting a tap in. After much discussion, the Stamps were given the goal.

Before the halfway mark of the period, Neo Kiemeney squeaked one five hole to make it 2-1.

But right before the end of the period, the Stampeders got another off the stick of Riley Fequet.

In the second period, Landen Gulutzan put the Stamps up by one, which was followed quickly afterwards by Jakob Jones shorthanded, to put the Stamps up 4-2.

In the third, a breakaway goal by Alex Walicki gave the Stampeders a 5-2 lead, 5:27 into the period.

The Wolverines got one back though when Jesiah Bennett scored on the powerplay.

The Stamps finished off the game with a last second empty net goal from Trey Sauder.

Vanderkooi had 39 saves in the game, meanwhile Jase Wareham played in his first game of the season, and stopped 23 shots.

The Wolverines were also just 1/7 on the powerplay, and gave up a shorthanded goal. They only had to kill one off themselves.

The next game for Waywayseecappo will on Saturday night in Virden when they take on the Oil Capitals.
