LaBelle Blanks Blizzard, Leads Wolverines To Fifth Straight Win

It was another all-around team effort for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Friday night as the club saw goals from four different players while Isaac LaBelle earned his third shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over the OCN Blizzard.

For the third straight game, it was the Wolverines who opened the scoring. Karstin McDonald beat Blizzard goaltender Dorian Laganiere off a 2-on-1 rush to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead just over six minutes in.

Despite getting outshot 17-7, Jack Kennedy would fire one home from the point to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead with forty seconds left to play.

It was an unorganized second period for both the Wolverines and Blizzard. Neither team could quite get a handle on the puck, but it would be the Wolverines who would add to their lead.

Kylar Fenton slid one on net from the slot and beat Laganiere with under four minutes to play in the second and increased the teams lead to 3-0.

The final twenty minutes of play was a heated affair, to say the least. Both Trent Halfdanson and Jack Tonnies did their part in dropping the gloves and getting the Wolverines fired up.

Dylan Soosay slid one in and extended the Wolverines lead to 4-0 with just under five minutes to play in the third.

Isaac LaBelle would hold down the fort and slam the door shut to lead the Wolverines to their fifth straight win in a 4-0 triumph over the OCN Blizzard.

The win on Friday night improves the Wolverines record to 24-24-2-2 to push the club to 52 points on the year and secure eighth place by four points on Winkler with two games in hand. It was also the Wolverines eighth win in their last nine contests.

Concluding their road trip on Saturday night in Swan Valley, Waywayseecappo will look to redeem themselves after blowing a 4-1 lead in Swan just before the Christmas break.
