Kiemeney scores two as Wolverines win Home Opener

With their new alternates, and starting the team’s 25th season in franchise history, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines beat the Neepawa Titans 4-1 in the team’s Home Opener.

Neo Kiemeney scored two goals and had an assist in his debut to help the Wolverines on the offensive side.

Meanwhile, Marek Andres stopped 36 shots in a nearly-mistake free game.

The two teams both had their chances, but it was a goalie battle between Andres and Titans goaltender Mason Lobreau, with both teams getting 37 shots on net.

The Wolverines were the first one to crack the code on one of the netminders, with a weird goal by Jackson Roth, who was able to put the puck in after it hit the end boards and bounced off Lobreau to make it 1-0.

It took until the later part of the second period, for another goal, this time by Kiemeney on the powerplay, with a simple wrist shot to make it 2-0.

Neepawa got on the board in the third period, when Mason Hartley scored shorthanded, after a turnover at the blue line. He breaked in and was able to beat Andres with a deke to make it 2-1.

But just 13 seconds later, Kiemeney scored his second of the the game while falling down to make it 3-1.

He almost got himself a hat trick, but his shot bounced off of Jack Clarke to make it 4-1, and that ended up being the final score.

Another big scorer, was Luke McCarthy, who had two assists in the game.

The Wolverines will head to Niverville on Saturday, for their first road trip of the season. The game starts at 7:00pm.
