Hard Work Earns Wolverines Third Straight Win In Route Of Steelers

SELKIRK, MB – Kris Bladen, Nick Doyle, and Jaymes Knee notched multi-point nights while Thomson Phinney stopped 29 of 33 shots to help lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 5-4 win over the Selkirk Steelers.

Unlike the last meeting with the Steelers, it was the Wolverines who would open the scoring this time. Anthony Bilka gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead just 4:08 into the first when he capped off a beautiful passing play with Gerrik Ripley and Brody Moffatt picking up the helpers.

Ten minutes later, Noah Westgate would double the Wolverines lead when he made a nice outside-inside move around the defender to snap it over the shoulder of Mitchell. Reagan Rabbit and Logan Wotton would add the assists.

Selkirk would get on the board late in the first when Keenan Allen beat Thomson Phinney. The Wolverines would exit the first twenty minutes of play with a 2-1 lead.

Carter Barley would score his first of two early in the second period which would tie things up at 2-2 only 1:22 into the frame.

No more than five minutes later, Nick Doyle would pick up a pass in the slot and rip it over the blocker of Steelers Goaltender, Levi Mitchell to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead. Alex Lucken and Jaymes Knee would pick up the assists on the scoring play.

Four minutes later, Kris Bladen would score his sixth of the season to double the Wolverines lead to 4-2. Nick Doyle would notch his second point of the night with an assist while Matt Swanson would get the other.

At the midway mark of the second, Carter Barley beat Thomson Phinney to bring the Steelers within one. The two clubs would head into the second intermission in a close battle.

With under seven minutes to play in the third, the Wolverines would capitalize on some momentum gained from a recent man-advantage. Jack Kennedy would take the puck and snap it past the shoulder of Mitchell to give the Wolverines their two-goal lead back.

Both Jaymes Knee and Kris Bladen would pick up their second points of the night with the assists.

Selkirk would press and get one late off the stick of Eric Krywy but that would be all as the Wolverines would hang on and pick up a 5-4 win over the Steelers.

Now 14-7-2-1 on the season, Waywayseecappo will wrap up their two-game road swing in Steinbach on Sunday night at 7:00.
