Early Goals Burn Wolverines as Blizzard Take 3-1 Victory

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines comeback fell just short as two first period OCN goals were enough to sink the Wolverines 3-1 on Saturday night in the Pas.

It was the OCN Blizzard who came out ready to play in the first period. Cory Checco and Jaden Pashe scored in the first five minutes to give OCN an early 2-0 lead. Outshooting the Wolverines 17-9 after 20 minutes, Waywayseecappo would need to put together a full 40-minute effort to get back into it.

Despite a pair of early goals from OCN in the first, the second period would prove to be much quieter in the scoring column.

The Wolverines would take six penalties in the second, managing to kill off each one while being unable to capitalize on their two chances with the man-advantage. Although the Wolverines found themselves on the kill for a good majority of the second, they would just about even up the shot clock with OCN leading 28-25 by the end of the frame.

A comeback push would be felt by the Wolverines in the third period as they put their foot on the gas pedal looking to tie the game up at two. At 13:50 of the period, Bryce Krauter’s sixth goal of the season would bring the Wolverines within one when he banged in a rebound in front to cut the deficit to 2-1 on an unassisted marker.

The push would continue for the Wolverines in the third until Isaac LaBelle was pulled for the extra-attacker which would see James Maxwell score on the empty net. The Blizzard would hold on and beat the Wolverines 3-1 after Waywayseecappo outshot OCN 17-5 in the third.

Now 14-16-1-2, the Wolverines will have a chance at redemption on Sunday night when they take on the Blizzard at 6:00 pm in the Pas.
