Battle For Playoff Position Continues When Wolverines Host Blizzard

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines (29-21-5-2) return to home ice on Tuesday night to host the OCN Blizzard (16-34-5-0) in their regular-season series finale.

Over the weekend, the Wolverines split their two-game series against the Winkler Flyers with a 3-2 come from behind win on Friday and 5-1 loss on Saturday.

Capping off their season series against the Flyers with a 3-2-0-1 record, the Wolverines will look to gain another two points when the puck drops on the Wolverines and Blizzard.

Head to Head

Through their first five meetings this season, the Wolverines have certainly been the better team in all but one matchup when the Blizzard skated to an 8-2 victory on Halloween night.

4-1-0-0 in the season series, three of the Wolverines victories have come by a score of 4-2 while their first meeting of the season saw the Wolverines take a 3-1 win.

The Wolverines have done a good job at staying out of OCN’s extracurricular activity after the whistle and have been able to use their league fourth-best powerplay unit to their advantage.

Waywayseecappo’s most recent win over OCN came in mid-February when the club doubled up the Blizzard 4-2 on February 14 in The Pas.

Blizzard Outlook

Since officially being eliminated from playoff contention, the OCN Blizzard will look to play spoiler on Tuesday night when they take on the playoff-bound Wolverines.

The Blizzard come into Waywayseecappo on Tuesday with a 3-6-1-0 record in their last ten and have been outscored 17-5 over their past two games.

News and Notes

It’s as tight as ever between fifth and seventh place in the MJHL. The Wolverines hold their fifth-place position with 65 points. Despite Virden also having 65 points, the Wolverines hold the season series lead.

Dauphin remains two points back of the Wolverines in seventh, all having 57 games played.

Following Tuesday nights game, the Wolverines will hit the road on Friday to Neepawa, before wrapping up their regular season schedule at home to the Virden Oil Capitals on Saturday night which could have serious playoff implications.
