Wolverines lose to Nighthawks

On the road for the first time this season, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped a 3-1 decision to the Niverville Nighthawks on Saturday night.

Raiden Legall stopped 37 shots in the win, as he was able to shut down the Wolverines offence.

In what could turn out to be a pattern this year, the Wolverines were in another goaltending battle throughout the game, as Marek Andres made 36 saves again, but this time finishing with a loss.

In the first period, the Nighthawks scored 5:42 in when Merik Boles beat Andres blockerside to make it 1-0.

Later on in the period, the Nighthawks were awarded a 5-on-3 powerplay, in which Kaycee Coyle put them up by two with 32 seconds left in the period.

In the second period, only one goal went on the board, as Aidan Herring got his first of the season to make it 2-1.

In the third, the Wolverines weren’t able to get through, but the Nighthawks got an added goal to the board. It was Kyle Bochek who scored to make it 3-1, and that was how the game ended.

The Nighthawks moved to 2-0 on the season with the win.

The Wolverines (1-1-0-0) were 0/5 on the powerplay, just a night after putting three in on the man advantage.

The Wolverines next game will be on Wednesday night in Swan Valley to play the Stampeders.
