Wolverines Get First Win of Season

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines picked up their first win of the season after a dominating 5-2 victory over the Portage Terriers.

The Wolverines scored four unanswered after giving up the first goal of the game on their way to the first two points of the season.

Carson Baptiste was the catalyst for the team, scoring two in the second period that tied the game and then gave the Wolverines the lead for good.

The Terriers scored the first goal of the game from a Brandon Funk shot from the slot, 5:40 into the game.

There was no more scoring until the second period, when Carson Baptiste beat goaltender Jayden Catellier on a breakaway.

Three minutes later, on a man advantage, Baptiste again scored to make it a 2-1 game.

In the third period, Leyton Smith scored on the powerplay, just 38 seconds into the period from a great passing play, with assists from Andrew Boucher and Carson Baptiste.

The Wolverines scored on another powerplay, when Caden Carlson got his first goal in the MJHL with a tip in front from a Lucas Eagle shot.

The Terriers then decided to pull their goaltender for a big chunk of the third period, resulting in an Austin Peters goal to make it 4-2.

But Andrew Boucher put the game away with an empty net goal.

Tresor Wotton stopped 26 shots in the win, while Jayden Catellier stopped 36 in the loss.

Special Teams was a big factor of the Wolverines winning, as Waywayseecappo finished the game with 3/7 on the man advantage. The Terriers finished the game 0/9.

The Wolverines next game will be against the Winkler Flyers on Friday September 30th, for Truth and Reconciliation Game.
