Wuttunee named captain for 2026-27 season

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are proud to announce that forward Treycen Wuttunee has been named the team’s captain for the 2026-27 season.

After serving as an alternate captain throughout  last year’s campaign, Wuttunee has been given the “C” in his final season of junior hockey.

A respected leader both on and off the ice, Wuttunee has become a cornerstone of the Wolverines organization through his relentless work ethic, team-first attitude, and has committed to helping out the Waywayseecappo community.

“Treycen has earned the respect of everyone in our dressing room,” said Head Coach and General Manager Landyn Cochrane. “He leads by example every day, whether it’s during practice, in games, or away from the rink. He understands what it means to be a Wolverine, and we’re excited to have him lead our group this season.”

Last year, he suited up in nearly every game of the season and playoffs, putting up 22 points (6 goals, 12 assists) during the season, and a goal and three assists in the playoffs.

“It has been one of my greatest honours to be named Captain for the upcoming season,” said Wuttunee. “Having the chance to learn from Aidan Herring and all the great leaders we had last year has built a tremendous foundation for this year’s team.”

“Last year, I quickly realized how amazing of a place Waywayseecappo is. The community is a place that feels like home to me, and the support we receive from everyone far and near is incredible. It is no lie that we have the best fans in the league. Through all the highs and lows of last year’s season everyone continued to show up and cheer on the Wolverines. That meant more to the group in the dressing than many will ever know.”

The Red Pheasent, SK product will become the franchise’s 30th captain, and first captain with an indigenous background since Brandon Stanley in 2016-17.

The Wolverines open the 2026-27 regular season on Friday, September 18, when they welcome the Virden Oil Capitals to the Waywayseecappo Arena.
