Wolverines win with late goal

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines had some late game heroics to get a tight 3-2 win over the Neepawa Titans.

Nolan Grier scored with just under three minutes left in the hockey game to give the Wolverines their third and final lead of the night.

In the first period, the only scoring was a goal by Caden Carlson that was off a Neepawa turnover, that ended up being a 2-on-1 for the Wolverines. Carlson was able to wire it past the netminder to make it 1-0.

In the second period, the Titans tied it up when Ewan Poirier was able to get point shot to go through and beat Tresor Wotton.

But at the end of the period, the Wolverines took the lead when Lucas Eagle went end to end and passed it over to  Ben Roulette that was able to put it past Mason Lobreau to make it 2-1 heading into the final frame.

In the third, it was a battle until the end as the Titans tied it up with 3:25 left to go in the period when Parker Korman made hsi way backdoor to slide it in the open cage.

But 29 seconds later, Nolan Grier skated to the outside and got a shot off the went right through Lobreau to make it 3-2 and propel the Wolverines to a victory.

Tresor Wotton  stopped 36 out of 38 shots in the win, while Lobreau stopped 21 in the loss.

The Wolverines were able to kill off all five of the Titans powerplays in the game. This comes just after a weekend where Neepawa scored 9 powerplay goals in two games.

The Wolverines next game will be on Sunday when they head to Winnipeg to take on the Freeze at 6:00pm.
