The Wolverines walked away with the win in their preseason debut with a 4-3 overtime win over the Yorkton Terriers.
Russell Aitkenhead scored just 34 seconds into overtime with a penalty shot goal after he was hauled down on a breakaway. The goal came after the Terriers tied it late in the third after trailing for most of the game.
The Wolverines started the scoring when Dylan Prettie beat Connor Nicolson glove side to make it 1-0 just 4:32 into the game.
But the Terriers tied it up closer to the end of the period when Broden Wotherspoon finished off a pass by Theo Cleland to get it just over DJ Mecas.
In the second period, the Wolverines took the lead when Ryder Delaquis tipped in a point shot from Russell Aitkenhead, to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
In the third, the Wolverines gave themselves a two goal lead when Liam Flett scored on the powerplay just 2:55 into the period.
But the Terriers came back with a goal by Taye Shukin at 5:35, and then Logan Hynd scored with 28 seconds left in the game.
But all that set up the Aitkenhead heroics in overtime.
The Wolverines were 1/4 on the powerplay in the game, and killed off all four Terriers powerplays.
The Wolverines used two goalies in the game, as DJ Mecas started the game, and stopped 16 of 17 shots. Then came in Brady Robert who stopped 17 of 19 in the second half of the game.
The Wolverines next preseason game will be on Tuesday as they head to Swan Valley to take on the Stampeders at 7:00pm.
