Wolverines win high-scoring game

The Wolverines came away with a win in a high-scoring affair, with an 8-4 victory.

Carson Baptiste led the way with two goals, and Boston Bird got a goal and 4 assists in the game.

The first period got out to a roaring start, and it started with a Neepawa goal by Connor Brust on the powerplay that was able to squeak past Liam Tereposky.

But just 22 seconds later, Owen Wheatley pinched in to tie the game as he was able to get one past Emerik Demers.

A minute and twenty seconds later, a shot from the point by Leyton Smith gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead.

Then just three minutes later, Carson Baptiste finished off a nice play from Boston Bird and Kolton Shindle to put it in a wide open net to make it 3-1.

Later on, after a bobble by Tereposky, Brayden Michalchuk nudged it by to make it a one goal game in the last minutes of the period.

But the Wolverines made sure to make it a two goal game after a nice move and shot by Kolton Shindle which was tipped in by Boston Bird made it 4-2 at the end of the period.

In the second, the Titans replaced Demers with Gavin Renwick and it worked, stopping all 13 shots that went his way. But Liam Tereposky also did his part stopping 8 of 8 in the period to keep it 4-2 heading into the third.

But for the third period, goals broke out once again.

Forty seconds in, the Titans Jaegar Lapointe scored to make it a one goal game on the powerplay.

It was 4-3 for a long time, until 12:07 when Joey Moffatt scored on a powerplay to make it 5-3.

Carson Baptiste later added his second goal of the game off a two-on-one and to make it 6-3.

But the Titans still had some fight in them, as Dallon wilton scored on a powerplay to make it a two goal game.

Neepawa was given a powerplay late into the game down by two goals, but after failing to score, the Wolverines Luke Robson passed it down to Jacob Charko who left the penalty box and went on to ice the game at 7-4.

Luke Robson later scored to make it 8-4.

Liam Tereposky stopped 21 shots in the win, while Gavin Renwick took the loss with his 17 save performance.

With the win, the Wolverines clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Wolverines and Titans will face off again on Wednesday in Waywayseecappo at 7:30pm.
