Wolverines win after Tribute to Shane Goodrunning

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines sent many members of the Shane Goodrunning family, friends and former teammates happy after a big 10-6 win over the Winnipeg Freeze after ceremony that retired the number of one of the Wolverines fan favourites.

Before the game, the #22 that Shane wore from 2009 to 2012 in Waywayseecappo was raised on the East Side Wall after he passed away last year.

The Wolverines put on an entertaining game for everyone involved which had 16 goals, and big debut and a fight as well.

The first period started pretty tame, with the Wolverines scoring first pretty early on when Boone Mathison got his fourth of the week.

The Freeze ended up scoring two more before the period would en though when Evan Stirling and Nathan Driver got some goals passed Liam Tereposky.

In the second, Boston Bird tied it up very early on the powerplay. But later on Eric Monk got his own on the powerplay and the Freeze regained the lead.

But the Wolverine s rattled off three more goals in a row when Luke Robson got his 8th goal of the season, Kolton Shindle got his first as a Wolverine in his debut, and Caleb Petrie got his 9th of the year, to put the Wolverines up 5-3.

Former Wolverine Tristan Bear got one against his former team to make it 5-4, but just before the end of the second, Shindle put Wayway up by two goals again.

In the third, early on it looked very similar to Friday’s game when the Freeze got two goals back to back to tie the game at 6. The goals were scored by Matthew Yakubowski and Matthew Carlson.

But that’s how many goals they would score, as the Wolverines added four goals including the game winner by Logan Wotton only 28 seconds after the tying goal by Winnipeg.

Boston Bird, Colby Wotton and Logan Wotton again would add the other three goals to give the Wolverines a 10-6 win.

Kolton Shindle ended up having two goals and three assists in the his first game being a Wolverine after his acquisition back on Friday.

Liam Tereposky stopped 18 of 24 shots for the win, while Keegan Gardon stopped 37 shots in the loss.

The Wolverines will be back at it on Thursday when they host the Selkirk Steelers at 7:30pm.
