Wolverines Visit Portage for Sunday Afternoon Matchup

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines return to action Sunday afternoon when they visit the Portage Terriers at Stride Place.

Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. It will be the first of four regular-season meetings between the Wolverines and Terriers in 2026-27.

Waywayseecappo enters the game with a 1-1-0-1 record through its first three contests. The Wolverines opened the season with a 5-2 victory over Virden before earning a point in a 5-4 shootout loss the following night.

In their most recent outing, the Wolverines outshot the Northern Manitoba Blizzard 50-19 but fell 6-3 in The Pas. Ian Buors scored twice on the power play, while Jonah Lemoine found the back of the net in his Wolverines debut. Cale Livingston finished with two assists.

Carter Haney leads Waywayseecappo with three goals and six points through three games. Max Collyer, captain Treycen Wuttunee and Livingston are tied for second with three points apiece, while Buors has scored twice.

Portage comes into Sunday with a 2-0-1-0 record. The Terriers opened their season with a 5-2 road victory over Neepawa before dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the Titans in their home opener.

The Terriers returned to the win column Friday with a 7-2 victory over Northern Manitoba at Stride Place. Portage received goals from seven different players and finished a perfect seven-for-seven on the penalty kill.

Justin Deschenes leads the Terriers with one goal and six points. Defenceman Cullen Rost is next with five points, while Lucas Bailey and Ben Bugeaud have four apiece.

Sunday’s game will also feature two players facing their former teams less than a week after changing sides. The Wolverines acquired Lemoine from Portage on September 21 in exchange for Rhett Perrin and a player development fee. Lemoine scored in his Waywayseecappo debut on Tuesday, while Perrin recorded a shorthanded goal in his first game back with the Terriers on Friday.

2025-26 Season Series

Waywayseecappo and Portage split their four meetings last season, with the Wolverines earning two regulation victories and the Terriers winning once in regulation and once in a shootout.
