Wolverines Top Kings 3-2 to Close Out Preseason

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines closed out the 2018 MJHL preseason with a 3-2 victory over the Dauphin Kings.

Preston Seymour opened the scoring for the Wolverines at 9:55 of the first period, tipping in a point shot past Kings goaltender Brennan Kitchen on the power-play, with Nick Doyle and Conrad Phillips drawing the helpers.

With just minutes left in the first, Brandon Lawson took a nice pass from Preston Seymour behind the net and found the twine to put the Wolverines up 2-0 after the first period.

The lone goal in the second period came from the Dauphin Kings, as Nakodan Greyeyes cut into the Wolverines lead, 2-1.

George King knotted the game at 2-2 for the Kings early in the third period, only before Wolverines defensemen Brady Pupp snapped a shot past Kings goaltender Brennan Kitchen. Preston Seymour notched his third point of the night with his assist, while Conrad Phillips picked up his second.

The Kings pressed late in the game hitting the post, but the Wolverines would hang on to close out the preseason with a victory.

Wolverines goaltender Isaac LaBelle was brilliant in the win, stopping 28 of 30 shots fired his way. Final shots on goal ended in favor of the Kings 30-24.

The Wolverines open the regular season on Friday, September 21st in Steinbach against the Pistons.
