The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are in must win territory for the remainder of the regular season schedule as the team plays four games in six days to wind up the season.
The Wolverines are five points back of the Neepawa Titans with just four games left, which means they are going to need win at least two more games than Neepawa the rest of the way.
For the Titans, their schedule is also four games left, and involves a three games in three days end to the season. They start with a game against the Winnipeg Blues on Tuesday, which should be close to an automatic win. But over the weekend, they take on the Steinbach Pistons in La Broquerie on Friday, against the Terriers in Portage on Saturday and then a home game against the OCN Blizzard on Sunday. For Neepawa to get the final playoff spot, they just need two wins. One win, and an overtime loss won’t get them to clinch without the help of a Wolverines regulation loss.
So for those keeping count, for the Wolverines to continue playing past March 17th, they will need get at least seven points (three wins and an overtime loss) if Neepawa wins on Tuesday. If Neepawa doesn’t win and gets upset by Winnipeg, the Wolverines will just need to win two games and an overtime loss the rest of the way. All of this can only happen if Neepawa loses all of their games on the weekend.
Now let’s look ahead on what the Wolverines will be facing this week.
Wolverines @ Stampeders Mar 12/24 – 7:00 PM
The Wolverines face the last place team in the West Division.
The Stampeders just recently ended a 14 game losing streak with a win over the Winnipeg Blues.
The Wolverines have won 4 of the 5 contests against the Stamps this year.
Steelers @ Wolverines Mar 13/24 – 7:30 PM
The Wolverines and Steelers meet up after their games was postponed on March 3rd.
Both teams will be chasing from behind to get the last playoff spot.
The game will probably eliminate the losing team.
Wolverines @ Blizzard Mar 15/24 – 7:00 PM
Arguably the toughest matchup of the remaining schedule, the Wolverines will take on the red hot OCN Blizzard.
The Blizzard are riding a 12 game winning streak (they play Wednesday against Dauphin).
The Wolverines have not won in the North since the 2021-22 season.
Oil Capitals @ Wolverines Mar 17/24 – 6:00 PM
In the last game of the season, the Wolverines host the Virden Oil Capitals. The game might mean a whole lot, or nothing at all, but time will tell.
If the two teams do face off with the Wolverines having a chance to clinch a playoff spot on the final day, this will most likely be the first round matchup that will begin a week later in Virden.
