Wolverines survive comeback to beat Blizzard

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines almost let a three-goal lead slip away, but bounced back and won 6-4 over the OCN Blizzard.

It was a quick start for the Wolverines that nearly ended in disaster when the Blizzard bounced back in the second period, but Waywayseecappo finished strong to get in the win column.

The Wolverines started off the scoring from a likely player as Troy Hamilton got his ninth goal in nine games as he put in a Boston Bird rebound.

Just before the end of the first period, after a big hit by the Blizzard, the puck ended up on Reese Malkewich’s stick, and he wired it past OCN’s goaltender Nick Pineo, to make it 2-0 Wolverines after one.

In the second period, Luke Robson put the Wolverines up by three to pile on. The goal ended up chasing the Blizzard’s Pineo from the net, and was replaced by Evan Van Laken (Pineo would come back in to start the third).

The goaltender change seemed to help OCN, because in five minutes time, the Blizzard got goals from Ryland Kuczek , Dain Sardelli and Brett Tataryn to tie the game up at three and completely turn the game around.

But the Wolverines put themselves back on top when Malkewich got his second of the game. Waywayseecappo extended the lead into the final frame when Jacob Charko added one of his own.

The Blizzard wouldn’t go away though, as they scored the first goal in the third period, after great passing play ended up with Cy Toth putting one past Liam Tereposky.

But the Wolverines put the finishing touches on the game when Carson Baptiste finished off a beautiful play and beat Pineo to extend the Wolverines lead back to 2.

That was all Waywayseecappo needed though, as they finished the game up and extended their win streak to three games.

Liam Tereposky picked up the win for the Wolverines.

The two teams will play once again on Sunday night in Waywayseecappo at 6:00pm.
