Wolverines start weekend home stand against Pistons

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines will be playing eight games at home in the month of November, and it all starts on Saturday night when they host the top team in the league, the Steinbach Pistons.

Steinbach is 13-2-1-0 on the season so far, and knocked off the Dauphin Kings on Friday with a 4-3 overtime win, thanks to a Ty Paisley overtime winner.

The Pistons have only lost to the Winkler Flyers in the first game of the season, once to Neepawa in overtime, and then against the Portage Terriers. They have now won their last six games on the year, and have two winning streaks of that length this season.

For the Wolverines, they will be coming off a loss back on Sunday against the Virden Oil Capitals. They also just came off a month in which they had only played nine games in October. That will change this month of course, with 12 games, eight on home ice in November.

Waywayseecappo will be playing a stretch until Christmas that they will be playing each game against a team that is currently in a playoff spot. There is 19 more games left until the break.

In the last five seasons, the Wolverines are only 1-6-1-0 against the Pistons, but their one win was a couple years ago on home ice. In that game, the Wolverines gave the Pistons their first loss of the season.  Last year, the Wolverines lost in overtime to the Pistons in La Broquerie, in a game that was coached by current coach Landyn Cochrane.

The two teams will be playing four times this season. The next time the two will play is next week in La Broquerie. They will then play once again in December, and then in Steinbach’s new home in the new year.
