Wolverines start season in Virden

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines are set to start the season at the same spot where their season ended last year.

The Wolverines will take on the Virden Oil Capitals in the first game of the 2022-23 season, which will start a back to back series, where the play the Oil Capitals in Wayway on Saturday night.

Last season, Virden swept the Wolverines in four straight games in very tight contested series in the first round, even with the result.

The Wolverines will be bringing back a good chunk of that team, led by forwards Andrew Boucher, Carson Baptiste, Boone Mathison, Colby Wotton, Owen Wheatley, Lucas Eagle, Aiden Ziprick and Leyton Smith.

But the team has also brought in some new blood, including twins Cole and Caden Carlson and defencemen Guerin Apperley from the OCN Blizzard.

On the goaltending side of things, the Wolverines have brought in Michael Bashaw from Wisconsin, and brought back former Wolverines goalie Tresor Wotton after he had a late season stint with the Yorkton Terriers last season.

The game starts at 7:30pm at the Tundra Oil & Gas Place, and can be viewed on HockeyTV.
