Wolverines Prospect Kieran Thiessen Recognized by MMHL

Waywayseecappo Wolverines prospect Kieran Thiessen was recently recognized by the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League and received the league’s Skill and Sportsmanship award.

The 17-year-old forward exploded onto the scene for the Eastman Selects this season, scoring 29 goals and 35 assists in 48 games while taking just one minor penalty.

“I think that my speed and passing helped a lot,” Thiessen explained. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and I never have really taken a lot of penalties so I think that just carried over.”

And as for receivingĀ a league award, the young forward from Landmark, Manitoba says he really wasn’t expecting it.

“It felt pretty good, I didn’t even know it was a thing let alone thinking I would win it.”

As of Tuesday, Thiessen and his Eastman Selects sit tied at 1-1 in their first-round playoff matchup with the Midget AAA Wheat Kings. Game three is set for Tuesday night in Brandon, which Thiessen is looking forward to.

“Playoffs have gone well, I think if we battle hard and stay discipline we will have lots of success and really put a dent in other teams.”

Thissen added that he is really looking forward to next season when he comes to camp with the Wolverines to compete for a roster spot.
