Wolverines powerplay propels team to win

After the first game of the season, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines powerplay does not look like it will be a bottom half unit this time around.

The Wolverines had a 3/5 powerplay to help lead the team to the season opening 4-2 win over the Virden Oil Capitals. It was a change of pace from the team that was 9th in the league last year with a 19.1% rate with the man advantage.

Waywayseecappo had goals from Sebastien Hicks, Mikey Thomas and Ben Roulette, along with an even strength goal by Cole Hunter to give the Wolverines the important first win of the season.

For the Oil Capitals, they had goals by London Hoilett and Brooks Siemens. The team never held a lead in the game, but was able to tie the game twice. They were 1/4 on the powerplay.

The Wolverines had Jase Wareham start in net, and he was able to stop 34 of 36 shots on net. For Virden, it was Braxton Burdeny in net for the loss, stopping just 22 shots on net.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Virden at Tundra Oil & Gas Place for Virden’s home opener, and for the Wolverines to try and make it a 2-0 start for the first time since 2022.
