Wolverines Open Road Trip With 4-1 Win Over Flyers

The Waywayseecappo Wolverines beat the Winkler Flyers 4-1 on Friday night and ended a three-game losing skid.

Dylan Soosay opened the scoring and gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead on a beautiful move around Flyers netminder Riley Morgan. Trygve Many Guns and Riley Vautour picked up the assists on the scoring play.

The Wolverines were able to kill off a late penalty in the period and head into the break up one goal on the Flyers. Isaac LaBelle was perfect in the opening period, stopping 12 of 12 shots.

Kylar Fenton fired a shot from the point on net and Jake Bestul would score his first of the season on a rebound to put the Wolverines up 2-0. Greg Lee would also draw an assist on the play.

Winkler would get in on the scoring with just under six minutes to go in the second when Griffin Leonard would solve Isaac LaBelle to cut into the Wolverines lead and make it 2-1.

Trygve Many Guns would take a late roughing penalty and the shots would sit even at 23/23 when the buzzer rang to end the second period.

The Wolverines penalty kill was solid once again and would kill off the Flyers man advantage to open the period.  It would be Xavier Halterman who would increase the Wolverines lead to 3-1 when he found the twine alone in front.  Kylar Fenton picked up his second assist of the night on the pass to Ryley Cardinal who made a sweet feed to Halterman.

Waywayseecappo would continue to push the pace in the third period which would see Riley Vautour score on a one-timer to put the Wolverines in front 4-1. Trygve Many Guns picked up his second assist of the game on a slick drop pass to Vautour while Dylan Soosay would get his second point of the night on the second assist.

Isaac LaBelle picked up his sixth win of the season, stopping 34 of 35 shots. Waywayseecappo killed off 6 of 6 penalties, while they were unsuccessful on the power play going 0 for 3.

Now 6-2-1 on the season, the Wolverines road trip continues on Saturday night when they pay a visit to Selkirk to take on the Steelers at 7:30.
