Wolverines Open Regular Season with Home-and-Home Against Virden

The wait is over for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Waywayseecappo will open the 2026-27 Manitoba Junior Hockey League regular season with a home-and-home set against the Virden Oil Capitals this weekend.

The Wolverines will host Virden in their Home Opener on Friday night before travelling to Tundra Oil & Gas Place for the rematch on Saturday.

Waywayseecappo enters the season with a returning core complemented by several new faces. Captain Treycen Wuttunee will lead the group alongside full-time alternate Max Collyer. Dylan Duzan, Adam Chipelski, Cale Livingston and Mikey Thomas will also serve as alternate captains throughout the season.

The Wolverines strengthened their lineup during the final week of the preseason by adding forward Carter Haney and defenceman Kaden Sutherland.

Virden presents an immediate test for the Wolverines. The Oil Capitals finished first in the MGEU West Division last season and advanced to the Turnbull Cup Final.

Defenceman Nathan Schaefer has been named Virden’s captain after recording nine goals and 61 points over his first 80 games with the Oil Capitals. Carson Wright, Liam Goertzen, Brooks Siemens and Tyson Draper make up the remainder of Virden’s leadership group.

With four points available and both teams looking to begin the season on the right foot, the opening weekend will provide an early test for two clubs that reached the MJHL semifinals last spring.

Friday’s game will mark the first opportunity for Wolverines fans to see the 2026-27 team in regular-season action. Fans unable to attend can watch both games live on FloHockey.
