Chief and Council of Waywayseecappo First Nation and the Waywayseecappo Wolverines are excited to announce that Landyn Cochrane has been hired as the team’s sixth Head Coach in team history.
Cochrane was one of the team’s assistant coaches last year under Taylor Harnett, who resigned in early July.
The Silverton, MB product is the first former Wolverine to take over the team, as he played in Waywayseecappo for three seasons from 2014 to 2017.
After five seasons with Minot State in the ACHA, Cochrane was hired as an assistant coach with the Wolverines before the start of the 2023-24 season.
Wolverines Team Governor Morley Watson said that Cochrane was the best choice to lead the team after seven seasons with Harnett.
“It was important to keep some continuity going forward,” said Watson. “Landyn is local and took great interest in community events, does work in the area as substitute teacher at the local school and attending community events.”
“It’s a great honour to be the new coach of the Wolverines,” said Cochrane. “Taylor Harnett made it easy for me to transition to this role after learning from him this past year.”
“It’s only fitting for me to be back in Waywayseecappo after playing most of my junior career here. It’s always been like a second home to me.”
The new Head Coach’s first order of business will be when the Wolverines take to the ice for the start of training camp on August 29th.
